SANGUEM: Deputy Collector Sanguem Ajay Gaude on Saturday issued a show cause notice to Range Forest Officer (RFO) of Botancial Garden Narayan Prabhudessai as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for acting irresponsible while on duty at Salaulim Dam.
The show cause notice mentioned that on July 25, RFO Prabhudessai acted on his own to deploy security guards attached to the Forest Department to man the Gate No. 1 at Salaulim Dam and in the process permitted around 300 vehicles inside the main gate thereby violating security norms and putting the safety and security of the dam area into danger.
Immediately after the incident, the Senior Security Official Itchit Phaldessai deployed by Goa Human Resource Development Corporation Porvorim lodged a complaint with the Water Resources Department against the forest guards.
The WRD officials immediately rushed to the site and questioned the Forest Department personnel over taking up the matter of dam security in their own hands without any authority.
The Forest Department officials led by RFO Prabhudessai were not willing to accept their fault and this led to unsavoury talks between the duos which compelled the WRD officials to lodge a written complaint to the Deputy Collector Sanguem.
“The Forest Department which runs the Botanical Garden in the dam area deployed a couple of forest guards at the main entry point to resolve the problems faced by the visitors in parking their vehicles,” inquiries revealed.
“However, as per norm set by WRD, the dam area is manned and looked after by the security personnel deployed by GHRDC and there has been no problem whatsoever all these years with respect to the security provided by the Corporation,” it stated
The notice further stated that the Forest Guards deployed at the site however took the charge without the concerned authority and permitted over hundred vehicles inside the main gate which is otherwise not allowed thereby compromising the safety of the visitors visiting the Botanical Garden.
