Panjim: The Ribandar Fishermen’s Association has alleged that mangroves being planted on the banks of the River Mandovi, from Ribandar Patto to Divya circle, are creating problems for them and fishermen of the surrounding areas.
The mangroves have been planted up to 100 metres from the river bank and the fishermen face inconvenience while carrying out fishing activities.
Vivina Nashnodkar, Corporator of City Corporation of Panaji said, “We have requested the Captain of Ports to remove the mangroves as they are affecting the business of fishermen on a large scale and therefore we have also requested the Forest Department to remove these mangroves that are planted.”
Forest Department has promised to have a joint meeting with the authorities and take an appropriate decision at the earliest.
