CALANGUTE/VASCO: A 50-year-old motorcycle rider from Sangolda died, while 16 passengers were injured in separate road mishaps at Saligao and Bogmalo on Thursday.
According to Calangute Police, Narendra Parsekar was proceeding on his motorcycle (GA-03-Q-4563) when it collided with another motorcycle (GA-03-K-6479).
Parsekar died of injuries at the site, while two others on the other motorcycle, Powan Aryan (Uttarakhand) and one Prabhakar (Tamil Nadu) were shifted to GMC Hospital in Bambolim and were later discharged. PSI Sushant Gawas and HC Datta Shirodker are investigating the case.
In another accident, 16 passengers were injured when a speeding bus fell on its side near the Bogmalo Church.
According to an eyewitness, the bus (GA-02-V-4352) was proceeding from Vasco to Bogmalo when the incident took place.
“The bus driver lost control of the vehicle at a sharp turn due to which the axle broke and the bus fell on its side. The impact was that the bus skidded about 50 metres before hitting a roadside tree,” informed the eyewitness.
Locals rushed to the site and removed some injured passengers from the bus.
A police team shifted six passengers to a private hospital, while a 108 ambulance shifted 10 injured passengers to Chicalim Cottage Hospital.
When contacted, doctors at Cottage Hospital said six passengers were referred to GMC, while the remaining four were discharged after first aid.
Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho later visited the site to take stock of the situation.
