MARGAO/PONDA: Two persons – a rider and a pedestrian were killed in two separate accidents reported at Monte Hill, Margao and Curti, Ponda.
At Monte Hill, Margao, a 22-year-old Calconda youth was killed on the spot on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, Rahul Chalwadi, who was proceeding on his two-wheeler towards Nagesh Garden side on Monte Hill when he rammed into an Innova vehicle.
The impact was such that Rahul sustained serious head injuries which resulted in his instant death. Rahul was one of the supervisors of the door-to-door garbage collection system of Margao Municipal Council (MMC).
In another accident, a Curti resident was killed in a freak mishap reported near the Naga Masjid culvert at Curti-Ponda on Wednesday.
According to Ponda police, Shivayya Mahadev Hiremath (40), a resident of Naga Masjid Curti and a native of Karnataka was walking along the roadside near Naga Masjid, Curti when a luggage door of bus which was proceeding to Usgao suddenly opened and hit him.
The impact was such that Shivayya sustained serious injuries and collapsed. He was declared brought dead at Ponda Sub-District Hospital. The body has been preserved in the GMC morgue and further investigations are in progress.
Meanwhile, one Rohita Vishram Gaonkar from Maulingem Bicholim suffered a loss of Rs 30 thousand after a cow shade belonging to her caught with fire. Fortunately lives of the four cattle in the cow shade were saved by the firemen.
The reason behind the fire was not known. When house owner and the neighbours came to know about the incident they immediately contacted Bicholim fire brigade office.
