The hundreds if not thousands of Goans abroad who opened their purses to buy a dream sold to them by an outfit called Revolutionary Goans should be happy to know that their investment and more installments of funds will be used to keep their dream alive, the dream of Goan identity Goa for Goans and of course the POGO or the Person of Goan Origin bill, which was beautifully marketed by RG to get votes in the recent elections.
For many innocent Goans, the concept of the bill was appealing. Because it ought to give government benefits and schemes also to non-Indian Goans; legal experts say that the definition of “Goan origin” in the proposed bill, violates the basic principles of the Constitution but that is not something that came in the way of the bill getting popular, especially among non-Indian Goans. Innocent Goans did indeed get wooed.
Everyone talks of how RG supremo Manoj Parab mesmerized people with his powerful speeches during the campaign so much so that people were not listening or watching anything but his videos and stories became viral on social media.
RG became the only party and Parab was the only politician who fought the Goa elections also from England even traveling there to get oxygen for his campaign. Hats off to him. He portrayed himself as the messiah and the only saviour of Goa.
And the results are there to see. The BJP got 20 seats
Now RG’s Manoj Parab, who one thinks models himself on the Cuban Revolutionary Che Guevara, is on a revolutionary mission to wipe out all other opposition to the national party in Goa and be the principal. And who benefits from that. Ironically, the ruling national party itself.
But that’s for another time. For the time being all the funders of RG should know that the call has come for more. After all Parab, on April 1, said that whenever any election at any level is ever held in Goa, RG will contest everywhere, be it the panchayat, the municipalities, the Lok Sabha, and the next Assembly elections.
RG has shown the kind of confidence not shown by bigger opposition parties who are even running governments in other states like the Congress and AAP.
In a passionate Facebook post Manoj Parab, the supremo in a late-night passionate appeal via Facebook planned to have “a stronger presence” in the 40-member house in 2027. He also said RG will contest each and every election in Goa, whether it is a panchayat, or municipality election. “We will run a campaign.” Even established political parties like AAP and Congress haven’t shown so much confidence in contesting all elections.
Those who backed this “revolution” should really be congratulated.
It is perhaps an investment many Non-Indian Goans would love to make and want to continue to make seeing the success of RG.
Of course, the TMC has been routed in Goa in no uncertain terms and it now struggling even to keep its organization intact with the list of those in the departure lounge of the party growing each day while the arrival lounge is deserted. Hence the TMC factor had gone out of the equation. And the man synonymous with IPAC, Prashant Kishore, seeing that IPAC would not get any success in Goa, and the TMC won’t get seats, deserted them.
Then it was heard that Kishore was or has closed a deal with Telangana Chief Minister KCR. And he also does work for Jaganmohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh and Stalin in Tamil Nadu. With the Congress moves, all other parties are wary and skeptical of him, confused about the multiple dispensations he serves and whose side is he really on.
How benevolent is the Congress?
Now after presiding over the destruction of TMC and failure of IPAC in Goa, Kishore is auditioning with the Gandhis and the Congress to get a role there, in a solo move, reducing the equity of IPAC. Yet the Congress is close to welcoming him back and giving him a position and allowing him to discuss election strategy. How benevolent is Congress?
The BJP of course has to thank RG (Revolutionary Goans and not Rahul Gandhi) for the work it has done towards diminishing the scope of all opposition parties. It is actually a little humorous when Manoj Parab says those who voted for Congress, AAP, TMC, and other parties, are vote splitters when RG did that job the best.
The RG got close to 10% votes double that of TMC and over 90,000 votes, double that of TMC. Without the RG the BJP’s seats would have been reduced to half. The RG has done a fantastic job of splitting but it wants to go further. Of minimizing the opposition. And who benefits? The main national ruling party
For sure, the RG’s success will be backed by so many who have breathed much-needed oxygen into the party from thousands and thousands of miles away. The RG’s announcement of contesting each and every election will give the loving funders so many wonderful opportunities to show their love for RG and Goa.
