PANIM: Minister for Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Govind Gaude put to rest concerns about Goa being cut off its supply of essential commodities or that pulse transportation will be blocked due to the rise in COVID cases.
Responding to queries on this topic from media persons, Gaude said that Goa has enough stock that can last the next three months. He said this stock is stored in various warehouses in the State.
Gaude added that during the peak of the pandemic last year as well, Goa managed and that he doesn’t anticipate any problem presently as besides the weekend lockdown in Maharashtra, other States haven’t gone in for lockdown or measures restricting transport into Goa.
He said that as per the law, essential supply of commodities cannot be blocked as it would mean the public would not get its supply of food.
He added that the pulses and other essential commodities come to Goa via the rail network and from there kept at the MPT godown and then from there, unloading takes place and the stock is transported across the State.
