PANJIM: With fuel prices skyrocketing, the rates of essential commodities too have shown a minor increase on Saturday as compared to last week.
Herald visited the Panjim Municipal Market to seek detailed information on the rates.
According to Dharmendra Bhagat, a wholesale trader of Bhagat Enterprises and Sons, the price of edible oil (per litre) has gone up from Rs 195 to Rs 220.
The rates of tomato, potato and onion have stabilised at Rs. 30 per kg. However, with a minor hike of Rs 2, capsicum now costs Rs 60 per kg, informed Mehboob, a vegetable vendor.
Customers complained of the rise in lime prices. Six limes now are priced at Rs 50. The rate of green chillies has halved to Rs 80 from Rs 160.
Meat prices have witness an increase. The rate of chicken per kg has been hiked by Rs 10. Chicken now costs Rs 180 per kg as compared to Rs 170 per kg last week.
The rate of broiler chicken has gone as high as Rs 239 per kg however to that of mutton has been fixed at Rs 850 per kg from last two months, informed Afraj Bepari, a chicken vendor.
He informed eggs now cost Rs 56 per dozen compared to Rs 52 reported last week.
MARGAO: Except for the prices of chicken, other prices of essential commodities have been around the same in the last few weeks, according to traders.
The cost of Chicken is now Rs 239 per kg while the cost of a dozen eggs is Rs 60. When it comes to other meats, undercut is Rs 500 per kg, bone meat is Rs 280 per kg, mince (kheema), Bhendi and tongue are all Rs 350 a kg. Vendors said that the cost of meat other than chicken had not increased in the last four weeks.
Elsewhere, in the vegetable markets the costs were average with tomatoes selling at Rs 30 per kg. A vendor stated that the cost had stabilised and added that because of the heat, people are not visiting the market as much these days and also not spending much due to the high cost of other essential commodities like fuel, LPG gas etc.
The price of cooking oil has risen though, with the retail price of palm oil touching around Rs 170, a jump in Rs 20.
Palm oil per container (15 litres) is now around Rs 2,300 while sunflower oil and sunrich oil (1 litre – box of 10) is now at Rs 2,500 and Rs 1,250 respectively.
PONDA: Prices of vegetables in the Ponda market remained stable throughout the week as compared to last week. Green chillies are sold at about Rs 120 to Rs 150 per kg depending upon quality while red chillies are sold between Rs 400, Rs 500, Rs 550 to Rs 600. Mushrooms packets are sold at Rs 50 to Rs 60.
The price of onion is Rs 28 per kg, potato Rs 30 per kg, Tomato Rs 25 per kg, lady finger Rs 30 per kg, while grams Rs 95 per kg, mug were sold at Rs 110 per kg. However the prices of edible oil ranging between Rs 180 to Rs 200 depend upon various brands.
