PANJIM: Differences between central committee members of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) came to fore on Saturday at party headquarters.
Heated arguments led to allegations and warnings between rival factions – one led by former MLA Lavoo Mamledar and the other by the Dhavalikar brothers Ramakrishna (Sudin) and Pandurang ‘Deepak’.
Mamledar, who is at loggerheads with the party ever since it supported BJP, to form an alliance government in March 2017, suggested that the party be named as “Deepak Dhavalikar Party”. The former MLA had in the past said that the central committee never resolved to support BJP but it was the decision of Dhavalikar brothers.
When contacted, Mamledar alleged that the meeting had persons who were not members of the central committee, including some who had lost the Assembly election, some who had lost in the Ponda Municipal Council elections, and some others from Ponda.
“I refused to hand over the minutes book as the central committee rule says that only members should be present for the meeting. Whatever decisions we take have to be taken properly as we are responsible for the General Body,” he said.
Sources within Goa’s oldest regional party said no protocol was followed during the central committee meeting as non-members were also present.
Mamledar, the former Ponda MLA, has been accusing Deepak of hijacking the party and trying to sell it out to BJP for the political gains.
Neither of the Dhavalikar brothers were available for comment
