River in Sattari runs dry

VALPOI: Much to the angst of the local residents, a river in the village of Velus located in Sattari, has dried up completely. 
According to the villagers, this has happened for the first time in the village’s history and they urged the government on Monday, to look into this phenomenon.
It is to be noted that this water body is part of Mhadei River and it is the allegations of the villagers, that the village had started to dry up ever since the Mhadei river water was diverted as part of the Kalasa-Banduri project.
“Never in my life have I ever seen such a thing happen before. For the first time, our village river has gone completely dry. In the future, there might be a water war in Goa. Our demand to the Government is for them to look into this issue and find out why our local rivers are running dry,” said Bharat Gaonkar, a villager.
“Our cows drink water from the river but with no water left, our domestic animals find it difficult to quench their thirst. Also we are using the water for irrigation purpose, added Amresh Gaonkar, a farmer.
Shanti Gaonkar, said has become very difficult to carry out their daily chores such as cleaning of clothes, utensils etc.
