QUEPEM: In a tragic incident reported at Kohna-Rivona, the body of 39-year-old Vasu Gaonkar was found under mysterious circumstances by roadside on Wednesday night.
It is learnt that Vasu had gone to the forest near his village for hunting and it is suspected that the loaded rifle may have misfired leading to his death.
The villagers on finding Vasu’s body under mysterious circumstances by the roadside have raised several questioned over his death.
On Thursday a group of villagers marched to the Quepem Police Station demanding justice for Vasu’s family
A source informed that on the day of the incident Vasu went alone to the forest for haunting however some villagers claimed that he was accompanied by two-three persons or even more.
Local MLA Prasad Gaonkar visited the Quepem Police Station and inquired about the incident.
“Anyone involved in this case should be punished and justice should be delivered to Vasu’s family namely his wife and two kids aged 4 and 2 respectively. There should be no political interference in this case,” he demanded.
Quepem PI Deepak Pednekar said, “Today evening between 7 pm and 7.30 pm we received the post-mortem report, which revealed that Vasu sustained a leg injury from a gunshot as his nerve got cut and as a result of heavy bleeding he died.”
The PI said an offence has been registered under Section 304 and further investigation is on.
