PONDA: The Margao national highway, which has witnessed several accidents in the past, is again in the limelight, especially at the Bythakhol-Borim sharp turn.
The locals say that the 100-metre stretch has become a death trap after the recent heavy rain. The road was repaired before the monsoon, but the stretch deteriorated with the continuous rains.
They say the road has become dangerous for bike riders who find it difficult to negotiate with pillion rider due to the heavy vehicles also using this stretch.
“The riders have not only to avoid the potholes, but in doing so, they also often come up against the oncoming heavy vehicles and get involved in accidents,” said a local.
“The road topping has washed off due to the rains and the stretch is become unmotorable,” the locals added.
