MARGAO: The state of the road within the KTC bus stand in Margao has reached a critical point, causing inconvenience to commuters and the general public. Passengers claim that the overall surface quality within the bus stand has worsened, and the lack of a timely shuttle service has only added to their woes.
The KTC bus stand in Margao serves as a crucial hub for both locals and tourists, witnessing high daily footfall. Playing a central role as a depot for inter-State buses, it facilitates transportation between different States, with approximately 17 routes extending beyond South Goa originating from this bus stand.
Additionally, around 100 private buses also operate from the bus stand premises.
Despite having received administrative approval, the delay in initiating repair work raises questions about the efficiency of the implementation process. The prolonged wait for repairs has likely worsened the condition of the road, affecting the daily commute of thousands of locals, tourists, and numerous buses operating from the KTC bus stand.
Mangaldas Dessai, a regular passenger of the KTC shuttle service, told O Heraldo, “A prompt and coordinated effort is essential to address this issue and ensure that the approved repairs are carried out without further delay.” Paresh Naik, a daily bus passenger, pointed out the disparity in road maintenance, stating,
“The roads in villages and towns are getting tarred, but not the ones at the bus stand.”
The lack of adequate infrastructure not only hampers the daily commute for locals but also adversely impacts the overall experience for tourists relying on public transportation, said Menino Fernandes.
