PERNEM: Around a kilometre long stretch of road from the Major District Road to Tuem ferry point is in need of urgent repairs.
Hundreds of people commute on this road daily since the Tuem Camurlim ferry service helps the people to reach Mapusa or Panjim within short span of time and reduces the distance by 10 to 15 kms from Pernem.
For the past several years, the authorities have neglected this particular stretch of the road due to which it is now in very bad condition.
Due to the dilapidated condition of the road, the motorists are seen riding in the middle or at the side of the road to avoid running over the potholes. The road is also narrow, having field on one side and mangrove forest on the other.
The locals claimed that if someone loses control over his motorcycle due to the potholes then it can lead to casualty. They also informed that this particular stretch of road also does not have any streetlights due to which motorists travelling in the night face difficulty.
“The condition of the road is getting deteriorated by each passing day and authorities have turned a blind eye towards this issue. Hundreds of people travel on this road and such pathetic condition of road and absence of streetlights is causing inconvenience to the daily commuters,” Bhagwan Raut said.
