Road mishaps in the State claimed the ninth life within two days, when two more persons died in separate accidents at Advalpal-Bicholim and Kondalwado-Pernem on Tuesday.
MAYEM CORRESPONDENT ADDS: A 12-year-old boy from Advalpal-Bicholim was crushed to death under the wheels of a tempo near Primary Health Centre at Advalpal on Tuesday at about 9.30 am.
According to Bicholim police, the accident occurred when Prathamesh Prakash Gaonkar, who had gone to a shop to purchase bread, was returning home. Gaonkar accidentally came under the rear wheels of the tempo (GA-03-T-6273). He was rushed to Asilo Hospital at Mapusa, where he breathed his last.
Police have sent the body to GMC Hospital at Bambolim and will be handed over to his relatives after conducting the inquest panchanama. Gaonkar is survived by father, mother, brother and a sister. Bicholim police PSI Deetendra Naik is investigating into the case.
PERNEM CORRESPONDENT ADDS: A 46-year-old pillion rider from Ugvem-Pernem died while the rider escaped with minor injuries when a car and a motorcycle collided with each other at Kondalwao-Pernem on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, Narayan Mahale was riding the motorcycle (GA-03-B-2675) along with Suresh V Teli as the pillion rider towards Pernem, when they were hit from the rear by a Maruti car.
Teli sustained grievous injuries in the mishap and was rushed to the Tuem Primary Health Centre, where he was declared dead on admission. Mahale escaped with minor injuries. Both persons, who were employed at a bakery in Ugvem, were proceeding to supply bread to hotels in Pernem when the mishap took place. Pernem police is investigating the case.
It may be recalled that seven persons, including four members of a family from Ratnagiri-Maharashtra, died while two persons were injured in four separate road mishaps at Ugvem-Pernem, Bhatwadi-Korgao, Matve-Dabolim and at Bordem-Bicholim on Monday.
