MAPUSA: In a tragic accident, Simplicio Abreu, aged 54 years, resident of Peddem, here, working as a road roller driver died after he was crushed under the wheels of a roller near Nachinola Electricity Sub-Station on Friday.

According to the information obtained from the Mapusa Police, the incident occurred at around 11.15 am on Friday when the victim was proceeding towards Pomburpa from Nachinola on road roller. Upon reaching the Nachinola Electricity Sub-Station, Abreu lost control over the roller on the slope and dashed into a tree on the side of road.
Fearing that the roller would fall off on the side of the road, the driver jumped down to save his life, police said.
However, he came under the wheels of the road roller. Police suspect that the accident might have occurred due to brake failure.
After conducting the panchanama, the body was shifted to the Mapusa District Hospital. PSI Vibha Volvoikar is further investigating the case.
