PANJIM: In a bid to boost the automobile industry, which is staring at huge losses, the State government has decided to grant 50 per cent rebate on road tax.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho made this announcement ahead of Dussehra and Diwali when a large number people buy vehicles. “The road tax for all new vehicles purchased in the State in the next three months will be reduced by 50 per cent,” Godinho said. The tax reduction will be applicable for the months of October, November and December.
In Goa road tax ranges from 7 per cent to 15 per cent for luxury vehicles. Of late there was a trend of people registering vehicles in States where road tax is much lower. The State had also called for an inquiry on owners who have resgistered vehicles in such States.
This move comes as there has been a drop in the sale of vehicles across the country, including Goa.
