PONDA: Residents along with Bandora panchayat members stopped the work of a “katcha” road in the land belonging to the Bandora Comunidade at Farmagudi.

Incidentally, the work in the controversial comunidade land admeasuring over 1 lakh sq mtrs has been undertaken after the panchayat had revoked the NOC granted for developmental work in the area. The matter regarding the ongoing work was reported to the panchayat by a villager.

It may be recalled that villagers during the Gram Sabhas had raised objections to the sub-division of the land for development purpose.

During the recently held gram sabha, villagers had demanded to demolish the approach road to the Bandora Comunidade at Farmagudi.

“This is a grazing land and panchayat had revoked NOC given to develop the area. I don’t understand how and who has undertaken the work,” said Bandora Sarpanch Sulaksha Naik.

Naik along with Deputy Sarpanch, Ramchandra Naik, Panchas Rajesh Naik, Damu Gaude and Santosh Fadte and some concerned villagers were present at the site and later stopped the work.

The villagers have been agitating to protect the land belonging to the Bandora Comunidade which has according to sources has been identified as grazing land on the RP-2021.

“Since the last three years, we have been requesting the State authorities to protect the land which has also been identified as the grazing land on the RP-2021. But, so far nothing has been done and we suspect that local politicians and authorities are supporting this illegality,” alleged Govind Gaude, who is spearheading the agitation.

Ponda Police were also summoned at the site to avoid any untoward incident.
