Roads were bad during Kamat’s tenure too: CM

PANJIM: Reacting to the charges levelled against his government by Congress on the pothole-ridden roads, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the state of roads were also not good during the tenure of former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.

He directed the PWD to fix the potholes by November 1.

“I know people have to face hardship because of bad road conditions. Heavy rainfall is one of the main reasons for bad road conditions in the State. But the road conditions were the same during the tenure of Digambar (then Congress government). The State treasury was in full flow then but they failed to make good roads and develop the State and now he is criticising my government. I don’t need advice from Digambar and his party regarding development. I promise that on November 1, Goan roads will be pothole free,” said Sawant addressing media persons.

Sawant said, “As the monsoon has ended, this will happen soon.”

The CM had earlier inaugurated the newly constructed annexe building of PWD at a function held at Altinho. The state-of-the-art new building is built at Rs 5.5 crore.

PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar and Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar assured that the problem with regards to pothole-ridden roads will be addressed at the earliest.
