Roadside vendors in Curchorem moved to vending zone

CURCHOREM: Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) shifted all the roadside vendors and allotted them suitable spaces in the vending zone shade in GSUDA complex, Curchorem.
“Today we have partly shifted them and by next we will shift all the roadside vendors and not allow anybody to occupy spaces on roadside,” CCMC chief Balkrishna (Pinty) Hodarkar said and informed that by end of November all the passages of the buildings under their jurisdiction would be cleared of encroachments.
He said that the footpaths opposite to municipal building from Rohini store to Omkar Inn would be removed to widen the road and all the passages of the buildings along the roadside would be cleared for movement of the people without any difficulties.
On the difficulties faced by the fish vendors due to dilapidated condition of the fish market which was constructed during the Portuguese time, Hodarkar said that work of renovation at an estimated cost of Rs 16 lakh would commence by mid November.
“This old fish market would be renovated temporarily as permanent multipurpose market is already planned at the existing KTC bus stand, once they are shifted new site near the Ambedkar circle,” Hodarkar said and added that he is already in process of talking to the three owners of the land.of existing fish market in to develop the area by constructing buildings which can house different shops and bring different government department offices under one roof for the convenience of Curchorem and surrounding are people.
Chief Officer Ajay Gaude said that council would be strict with the people and would not allow any encroachments along the roadside or in the building passages. “Everything will be streamlined for the benefit of the pedestrians as well as motorists, including all the stake holders in the market,” he said.
