MARGAO: Even as Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant visited the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium at Navelim on Saturday all the roadside vendors, most of whom who had sprung up only on Friday, were conspicuous by their absence particularly on the road leading to Navelim.
It is believed that the police began very early on Saturday to drive away the roadside vendors from the road leading to Navelim where people were selling vegetables, fruits and even fish on Friday.

Meanwhile, notwithstanding SGPDA chairman Wilfred alias Babashan D’Sa’s assurance to open the SGPDA retail markets, the same remained locked on Saturday with a lone fruit vendor selling fruits and vegetables outside the retail market. Three persons were seen selling fish by the roadside in SGPDA market.
The meat market was totally closed while the open market erected in the parking lot on Friday by the fruit and vegetable vendors was also not operating on Saturday though one person was selling vegetables on the road leading to the KTC bus stand from the Old Market circle.
Incidentally, while carrots were sold at the Horticulture Corporation managed stalls at Rs 16 per kg, this vendor with the pickup was selling them for Rs 60 per kg.
