PONDA: Taking advantage of the lockdown and that most vegetables vendors in Ponda market have closed their shops, many unknown migrant vendors are selling vegetables and fruits, at exorbitant rates, on the roadside in Ponda and surrounding areas.
Viraj Sapre, a social worker, complained that police stop vehicles of locals for checking, and asked, “But why these strangers who are selling vegetables on roadside in Ponda and various parts are not checked? Or a medical test is conducted on them for COVID-19?”
“This is dangerous. We never saw these migrant vendors in Ponda. Police should question them; and medical tests should be conducted on them. In case they are affected, they should be quarantined,” Sapre said.
Sapre said that the locals are scared and worried about the unknown strangers selling vegetables on the roadside at various places since past one week.
He informed that though the horticulture outlets are operating, they have no customers.
When contacted, municipal officials said that they have no idea as to who these vendors are and how they are selling vegetables without permission.
