MARGAO: A robbery accused who was in custody of the Cuncolim police station tricked the police and fled on Wednesday night. Two constables who were in charge of the custody of the accused have been suspended.
Accused Gaby Fernandes (25) was arrested by the Cuncolim Police for an alleged robbery. He was taken to Balli Health Centre after he complained of health problems. He was then taken to the Hospicio Hospital for further treatment.
While at the male surgery ward, he assaulted the Police Constable Sarvesh Naik and fled from the hospital. A complaint has been filed by Constable Naik in this connection at the Fatorda Police station.
The two police constables, who were given the responsibility of maintaining the custody of the accused, have been suspended pending inquiry. The accused Gaby was arrested by the Cuncolim Police for his involvement in a vehicle robbery case in 2018. He was arrested by the Curchorem police and was handed over to Cuncolim police.
