MAPUSA: Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte, along with North Goa Collector Nila Mohan, Mamlatdar Dasharath Gawas and ex-MLA Kiran Kandolkar visited Late Samarth Revodkar’s family on Tuesday and handed over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh under natural calamities scheme to his parents.
Eleven-year-old Samarth had died when the banyan tree came crashing on their house at Revora on Sunday.
Khaunte also inspected the banyan tree and directed the Mapusa fire force to immediately chop it down. He also directed the North Goa Collector and South Goa Collector to review all similar pending cases and report them within the next three days.
He also informed that an application filed by the Revodkar family for cutting the banyan tree was pending before the Mapusa deputy collector since 2007. Rohan said he would examine if there was any unreasonable delay in disposing the application and if the in-charge was found negligent action would be taken against that officer.
Ex-MLA Kandolkar said the family were among the first to avail benefit under natural calamity scheme. Under Chief Minister Relief Fund and disaster management scheme further help will also be provided, according the estimated loss provided by the family.
