PANJIM: Rohit Monserrate and Sanjeev Naik were re-elected unopposed as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) on Wednesday.
Monserrate and Naik were the only two councillors, who had filed nominations for CCP Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s posts, elections to which were held. While, Monserrate’s nomination was proposed by councillor Nilesh Morajkar and seconded by councillor Asmita Kerkar, nomination of Sanjeev Naik for the Deputy Mayor’s post was proposed and seconded by councillors Santosh Surlikar and Pranjal Naik respectively.
It is the fourth consecutive term for Rohit Monserrate as a Mayor and third term for Sanjeev Naik as Deputy Mayor.
As per the CCP Act, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor are to be elected every year. In the CCP elections held in March 2021, the panel supported by Revenue Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate had swept the elections by winning 25 seats in the 30-Member Corporation.
Last year too, Rohit Monserrate and Sanjeev Naik were re-elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the CCP, respectively. Only one nomination each was received from Monserrate for the Mayor’s post and from Naik for the Deputy Mayor’s post. The elections were held on March 30, 2023.
Members of various committees were also elected during the meeting.
Rohit Monserrate, Asmita Kerkar, Karan Y Parekh, Vithal D Chopdekar, Carolina Po and Narsinvha C Morajkar were elected to the Standing Committee of the CCP. The names were proposed by Shayani S Chopdekar and seconded by Varsha H Shetye.
Similarly, Bento Silvester Lorena, Loraine S Dias, Santosh D Surlikar, Aditi Chopdekar, Shubhada R Shirgaonkar and Prasad Amonkar were elected to the Public Health and Market Committee. The names were proposed by Vithal D Chopdekar and seconded by Manisha Manerkar.
Shubham Chodankar, Silvestre Fernandes, Pramay Mainkar, Pranjal P Naik, Dennis Edward Francis Jorge and Nelson Cabral were elected to the Public Works Committee. The names were proposed by Carolina Po and seconded by Diksha D Mainkar.
Sandra Marie Da Cunha, Diksha D Mainkar, Shayani Chopdekar, Manisha Manerkar and Varsha H Shetye were elected to the Women and Child Welfare Committee. The names were proposed by Shubhada Shirgaonkar and seconded by Aditi Chopdekar.
