CANACONA: Finally, the wait for the wild edible mushrooms popularly known as “roin allmi” got over as the locals were seen selling them along the NH66 roadside from Balli to Partagal on Sunday.
The locals charged Rs 500 per wrap that contained 50 mushrooms.
At least 10 locals mostly women were seen selling ‘roin allmi’, the mouth-watering monsoon delicacy along the roadside and in no time these mushrooms got sold out despite the “exorbitant” rates compared to last year. Most consumers who stopped by were seen grabbing a few packets without bargaining or checking the mushrooms inside the wraps.
While others had to return disappointed as they complained that the vendors were charging exorbitant rates.
Denis Fernandes, a consumer, who purchased the wild mushrooms from a roadside vendor, complained that he was told that there were 50 mushrooms in a packet, but was shocked to find only 45 in each of the two packets.
Dinesh Sadolxemkar, who each year forages wild mushrooms during monsoon, said, “Even though it rained consistently, the wild mushrooms sprouted late this year.”
“Normally they sprout in the beginning of August, but this year it is bit late, it happens like this in some years” he said.
“Today is the first flush and in coming days second and third flush will arrive and then the rates will decrease considerably,” Dinesh added.
