PANJIM: The role of the then officers of the Margao police has come under CBI scanner for allegedly shielding the accused doctor.
Sources said CBI struggled to arrest the alleged killer though it had collected evidence against him, because the Margao police had already exhausted 14 days police custody when the case was being investigated by the latter in 2010. It was only after an application filed before the High court to register a fresh case was permitted that the CBI started the entire process afresh. “The police had failed to conduct a fair probe in the case. They neither traced the body nor collected evidence even as the accused was in their custody,” said an official.
