CANACONA: Commuters and shop owners at Canacona KTC bus stand are facing an unusual situation of rain water coming in the premises of the bus stand as the authorities have failed to replace the roofing sheets which had got blown off in the wind in past.
The ultra modern KTC bus stand at Chaudi in Canacona built by GSIDC in 2004 with a built-up area of 2670 sq mts was conceptualized on modern lines and was completed in 2004 and had been designed to last its life time.
But before it could complete even 15 years the self tapping screws used to fasten the roofing sheets have corroded at many places and the sheets just blow off when strong winds pass by the stand.
The authorities also have failed to undertake regular maintenance and the 5 to 6 sheets missing at two different places are yet to be replaced.
When it rains the water falls in streams inside the bus stand, complain the over 20 shop owners who bear the brunt together with the other visitors at the bus stand.
There are also incidents of people especially elderly slipping and falling down as the surface becomes wet and slippery during monsoon, say the shop owners.
“It is not only the sheets that are missing but the gutters fixed to chanalise the roof water to the drains have corroded beyond repairs lamented Vishant Prabhu who was filming a video to be uploaded in his YouTube channel when this correspondent visited the bus stand. The missing sheets together with rusted superstructure portrays the authorities who are supposed to look and take care of the bus stand in bad light and it is high time that the iconic bus stand is repaired and brought to its original state and glory,” said Anil Bhagat a concerned citizen from Canacona.
