PANJIM: An unfavourable tide and snapping of a rope tied to M V Lucky 7 casino ship has brought the salvaging exercise to a standstill, at least till Saturday, when the towing of the vessel is expected to resume.
“One of the ropes tied between the ship and one of the tugboats snapped when salvors attempted to refloat the vessel in deeper waters off Miramar beach on Wednesday evening. Its repair or replacement was in the process. But at the same time, the water tide was not favourable due to which salvors decided to postpone it till Saturday,” said an official.
After four failed attempts on Wednesday, a third tugboat was called late night to assist the existing two tugboats, one of which belongs to Captain of Ports Department. The salvors VMS Marine LLC had decided to make another attempt on Thursday early morning but the two reasons played spoilsport.
However, officials said the divers conducted a bathymetric survey on Thursday, to find the presence of smaller portion of sandbars.
The vessel will be towed off Aguada Bay for repairs after which the experts are likely to conduct an underwater survey too, to further tow it to Jaigad dockyard for other major repairs.
