VASCO: Taking cognizance of a Herald report highlighting the dangerous intersecting point at Chicalim where the motorists use the wrong way to cross over to another road, which may lead to fatal accidents, the Chicalim Panchayat and PWD have sent the proposal to construct a roundabout at the spot for approval.
It is pertinent to note that the road near the panchayat has become a death trap, wherein people take the wrong way to cross over to another road.
Stating that shortly the stretch will have roundabout constructed for the safety of the people, PWD Assistant Engineer Vincent D’Souza said, “Some days ago Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho along with panchas, Traffic Cell and PWD officials held joint inspection of this stretch near Chicalim panchayat. The minister also gave several instructions including installing necessary signboards .
D’Souza said, “After the inspection, the proposal and drawing of this roundabout was prepared and sent for approval. We expect that soon the approval will come and the work of constructing a roundabout will commence.”
Chicalim sarpanch Sebestiao Pereira confirmed that they along with officials of other concerned departments inspected the spot some days ago and subsequently a proposal was prepared to construct roundabout at this stretch to avoid accidents.
It may be recalled that Herald had highlighted in its report about the dangerous intersecting point where the motorists take wrong way which may lead to fatal accidents.
