MARGAO: Controversy has erupted in Rachol over the panchayat’s decision to hold the flag hoisting ceremony at its new panchayat ghar.
In a letter written to the Salcete Block Development Officer, a panch has protested against the proposed shifting of the panchayat ghar and detailed the reasons for his objection. In his formal letter, Luis Oliveira has appealed to the BDO to inspect the new panchayat premises and act accordingly basis including the proposed flag hoisting at the new panchayat ghar.
Oliveira accused the sarpanch of forcibly shifting the office illegally without adhering to the High Court order. Luis was referring to a public interest litigation petition filed in the High Court against the construction of the new office.
Luis has requested that the BDO gives directions to the panchayat to function from the old premises till the completion of the 6 meters tar road and that the flag hoisting scheduled on January 26 should be done near the old panchayat office situated near Rachol church.
“As a panch member I strongly object to the shifting of the panchayat office which will lead to wide spread protests if proper measures are not taken by your office. Your office has already been informed about this illegality. In fact, the old premises are in a better position to deal with parking and other matters,” said Luis.
