PANJIM: Karapur- Sarvan Gram Sabha witnessed noisy scenes on Sunday over the proposed upcoming mega project under its jurisdiction with members alleging that 1,700 plots are to be developed on over one lakh square metres of land in the village.
Villagers demanded that the provisional no objection certificate given for the project be withdrawn and all permissions given to a real estate firm be revoked with immediate effect.
Voicing their opposition, residents of Sanquelim and Bicholim have sent letters to Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department, North Goa Collector, Public Works Department (PWD) and Karapur Sarvan panchayat terming the project as investment driven and marketed for its speculative commercial potential.
A villager claimed that around 1700 houses are going to be constructed here under the project which is as good as an entire village. The Sarpanch clarified the NOC has been given only for developing the plot not for the mega project and stated that they had not received any file for clearance from the real estate firm in question.
Villagers have been opposing the project alleging that it will drain out natural resources and lead to large scale environmental destruction.
