MARGAO: The Colva villagers, taxi and rent-a-bike owners have objected to the manner in which the police have handled the case of Baptista D’Costa murder case.
The villagers led by former MLA Mickky Pacheco have demanded that the police apologise to the family of Baptista for spreading wrong and derogatory information about him.
The Colva villagers allege that the police have shown highhandedness in the case of Baptista and have wrongly informed that he was homosexual and the murder was a result of the harassment he caused to the accused.
Extending his support to the villagers and the family, Mickky said, “He was working for 15 years in taxi business at Colva. All from the taxi business know him well and now looking at the statement of the police the family is sad and ashamed.”
“The highhandedness of the police warrants an apology to the people and especially the family,” Mickky said. Warning the police, Mickky said, “If someone from the family commits suicide due to the humiliation, they will responsible for abetting the suicide.”
The taxi owners and the family of the deceased asked why did the accused leave with the gold ornaments if it was sexual harassment. “It is his only defence. He will get bail on this and that is their plan,” the villagers alleged.
