VASCO: The recently renovated old fish market led to a row with Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida stating that government money has been used to renovate the same, while former councillor Krishna (Daji) Salkar warned the legislator not interfere in the municipal issues.
The MLA said, “Government money has been used to renovate the old market and wholesale fish vendors could be shifted in this premises.”
Reacting to the MLA’s remark, the former councillor warned the legislator not to interfere in the municipal issues and claimed that the old market renovation was his project.
Recently in a viral video, Salkar accused the MLA of not carrying out development in Vasco for over nine years.
Salkar alleged that the MLA hijacked his project — renovation of the old fish market so that the vendors sitting outside could be shifted there.
Two days ago, Almeida along with the Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat and municipality staff inspected the renovated old fish market.
The MLA informed media persons that he was approached by some fish vendors requesting for a place to sit and conduct business.
Almeida said, “I have instructed the Chief Officer and the Administrator to take a decision on this market. If this renovated market is given to wholesale fish vendors then the people will also benefit.”
Meanwhile, on Thursday evening, Vasco BJP Mandal general secretary Yatin Kamurlekar at press conference countered the allegations levelled by Salkar against Almeida.
Kamurlekar said, “Salkar must not forget that Almeida is the Vasco MLA hence he has to see the works in his constituency.”
