PANJIM: Casino M V Royale Flotel Deltin Caravela, that
had been anchored near Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, was shifted to Campal Bay
early Friday morning. The vessel made the short
journey between 6
and 7am as per the order
issued on
Thursday.
The vessel was moved out from near the bird sanctuary
after Ribandar villagers had protested it being anchored close to the
sanctuary. Villagers had given the government a deadline to move the vessel out
of the area.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had assured Ribandar
residents to sail the offshore casino vessel to another location. He had
stated, during the ongoing monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly, that
the vessel will be shifted when the water level is at the lowest to allow
smooth sailing from Chorao to another site.
Captain of Ports James Braganza confirmed there were no
hiccups during the process. The administration ensured that barges,
passenger launches, ferry boats, fishing trawlers and mechanized and non
mechanized crafts including tourist boats, cruise boats plying in the
jurisdiction did not to cause any hindrance during the period.
