The Railway Protection Force has strengthened its presence at the Margao Railway station by erecting sand bunkers to meet any security threat during the peak festive season.
Two bunkers have been erected in front the railway station and are being manned by armed RPF commandos. Similarly, the RPF have intensified checking at the railway station as a preventive measure. KRC Senior Public Relations Manager, Baban Ghatge said that security has been beefed up at the Canacona and Tivim railway stations. “The strengthening of the security arrangements is part of efforts to beef up measures at the railway stations in the state”, he said, adding that the Goa sector of the KRC had received around 47 armed personnel, of which eight each have been deployed at Canacona and Tivim stations, while the remaining personnel are maintained round the clock security at the Margao railway station.
The Margao railway station of the Konkan Railway has always been considered a soft target for terror elements given Goa’s status as the holiday destination from tourists all over.
In fact, after meeting the threat perceptions, the Margao railway station is amongst the few railways stations that has advanced camera system installed over the platforms and outside to check the movement of anti-social and terror elements
