RPI to contest 2017 State Assembly elections

PANJIM: The Republican Party of India (Goa) on Saturday announced it would contest the 2017 elections in the State.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of announcing a taluka-wide programme to celebrate Babasaheb Ambedkar’s 124th birth anniversary, party national secretary Suresh Barshing said, “We will be putting up our candidates for the elections. It doesn’t matter if we win or lose as long as we contest. If we win, then good for us, nothing is lost if we don’t win.”
The party also announced plans of organising seminars and programmes to celebrate Ambedkar’s 124th birth anniversary in April next year. The programmes will begin later this month and conclude before April 14, 2016.
Speaking about the party demands, Barshing said that a delegation met with officials, including Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and BJP State president Vinay Tendulkar. The list of demands includes that issues related to the SC ST community, OBC, ladies, employment and the youth be taken up as early as possible.
The government has also promised to allot land for a building to commemorate Ambedkar in Goa. They are yet to finalise on the land and other details, but have assured that it will happen, Barshing said.
