Rs 1,500 cr allotted to State to carry out works, says PWD minister

MARGAO: PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar on Tuesday announced a host of works with the Central government funding to the tune of Rs 1,500 crore, which includes new water treatment plant, pipeline, tender for Western Bypass work completion and also for desilting of River Sal.

Pauskar informed that the PWD will be tendering the work of a new 100 MLD plant at Selaulim Project. The project is estimated at Rs 100 crore and will be executed with the Central government funding under Jal Jeevan Mission. The existing water treatment plant is damaged and is old. The old construction will be removed and a new plant with sump will be constructed.

On the turbidity of water to taps in Goan households, PWD minister said, “The department feels bad that some taps in Goan houses are getting turbid water. If there are complaints filed by the consumers, the department will make sure to stop the same.”

Another assurance in the long list of works was the completion of the JICA pipeline work. 

The minister informed that the JICA pipeline incomplete work is tendered at Rs 34 crore and the work of the Selaulim to Vasco pipeline will be completed by December.

Speaking on the work of Western Bypass Road, Pauskar said, “Western Bypass box culvert width has been increased. Work of Rs 145 crore has been tendered and technical bid opened. Rs 175 crore is needed for the work and the Center has agreed to fund.”

He also said that the desilting of River Sal will be taken by the Water Resource Department and an estimate of Rs 9 crore has been prepared for the same.

Further, the PWD Minister informed that the work of Zuari Bridge is 65 per cent complete. However, the PWD will take a call on whether to continue with the Chinese consultant and to get material from China for the work. 

The PWD Minister plans to discuss the same with the Centre and take a call.
