Rs 1,500 cr investment okayed for IIT campus

PANJIM: The Central government has approved investment of Rs 1,500 crore over next three years for setting up Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Guleli in Sattari Taluka.

The State government has transferred land admeasuring 10 lakh sq mtrs to Director IIT for setting up the campus that will facilitate around 5,000 people. 

Minister for Skill Development Vishwajit Rane on Friday said that Government of India has approved the Detail Project Report (DPR) for investment of Rs 1,500 crore over the next three years for IIT Goa.  

“In addition over the next seven years estimated investment would be close to Rs 3,000 crore,” Rane said adding that the move will pave the way for uplifting not only Sattari and Usgao but the entire State of Goa in a substantial way.

The State Government identified land at Guleli Village of Sattari Taluka. Thereafter, site selection Committee of Union Ministry for Human Resource Development (MHRD) inspected the site and approved it . The Directorate of Technical Education conducted all the codal formalities required for handing over the land.

IIT-Goa is currently functioning from the campus of Goa Engineering College at Farmagudi.
