PANJIM: The central government has sanctioned Rs 19.13 crore for capacity building of municipalities, Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza said.
The sanctioned amount was for a four year period and will result in more engineers, data entry operators and other staff being employed in the municipalities and other areas of the functioning of the municipalities.
He also said that the government has appointed community development organizers in all municipalities except in Margao and recently had a review meeting of these organisers.
The organizers have been deputed to the municipalities to get together the urban poverty alleviation programmes of the government of India.
Goa’s municipalities had a very poor record in utilizing central funds under
the National Urban Poverty Alleviation programme and have been asked to buckle up and gather data on
urban poor in their respective areas.
