PANJIM: In a major raid, the election authorities on Wednesday seized cash amounting to Rs 2.31 crore in Goa.
While details of the seizure have not been made available by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), it is learnt that Rs 2,31,70,630 in cash was seized on April 17. On the same day liquor worth Rs 28.16 lakh was seized by the flying squads in various raids conducted across the State.
The CEO said that the total seizure value for April 17 was Rs 2.81 crore, which also included narcotics of Rs 31 lakh.
The office further said that the value of seizures since March 10, when the election code was announced till date has been Rs 8.46 crore (8,46, 96,043). “No precious metals like gold, silver or other metal have been seized,” CEO said. However, water tanks and food items, both pegged at Rs 57,236 have been seized.
The State will vote on April 23 for two Lok Sabha MPs and three by-elections in Mapusa, Mandrem and Shiroda.
For the smooth conduct of the elections, along with Goa Police there are 42 companies of CRPF that have been deployed in the State. Police have identified and booked 587 possible trouble makers under various Sections of the CrPC.
