BICHOLIM: Burglars broke into famous Vetal temple at Mulgao in Bicholim and decamped with Rs 2.8 lakh, on Tuesday midnight.
According to Bicholim police, Devasthan President Krishna Mantri complained that the burglars effected entry into the temple by breaking the side window grills of the temple and took away silver sword of God Vetal, golden ark and golden eyes of idol of the goddess installed in the same temple.
The fact came to light early in the morning on Wednesday when a Devasthan priest came to perform pooja at the temple. A dog squad was also pressed into service, but it could provide any clues.
CCTV footage has revealed that some 4-5 people were involved in the burglary including an old person. However, footage was not clear, according to police.
This is the second time a temple has been burgled in as many months in Bicholim taluka. Last month, famous Datta temple in Sanquelim was also burgled.
Bicholim PSI Harish Gawas is investigating the case under the guidance of PI Sanjay Dalvi.
