Rs 25 lakh to be disbursed to 86 sentinels

PANJIM: The State government has approved over Rs 25 lakh to the Goa Police towards disbursement of reward to 86 Traffic Sentinels, who have won points by reporting various traffic violations to the Goa Police. 
The Home Department on Wednesday issued an order sanctioning Rs 25.89 lakh, following approval from the Finance Department. “Sanciton of the government is hereby accorded for incurring an expenditure of Rs 25.89 lakh towards disbursement of reward to 86 traffic sentinels. Ex-post facto expenditure sanction of the government is also accorded for incurring an expenditure of Rs 11.92 lakh towards disbursement of reward to 47 traffic sentinels,” the order states. 
Outgoing Director General of Police Muktesh Chander, who introduced the scheme in 2017, said the money will be credited into the accounts of sentinels in a few days. As on date, the Goa police paid Rs 17 lakh to sentinels in three prize distribution ceremonies with two sentinels also winning a car and a two wheeler. 
DGP Chander will hand over the charge to 1988 batch IPS officer Pranab Nanda on March 1.
