Rs 26.6 lakh worth gold seized from AI flight

PANJIM: Goa Customs officials on Monday seized 929 grams of gold worth Rs 26.6 from an Air India flight. The gold was concealed in a waist belt in paste form and the belt was placed in the rear toilet of the Air India Dubai-Goa Flight AI 994. Customs officials said that none of the passengers claimed ownership of the belt.
Similarly, another case was detected in transit flight where gold in paste form was found inside the shoes of a passenger. The transit passenger was offloaded along with two receivers of the gold who were travelling as domestic passengers on the same flight. 
Since April 2018 Goa Customs has seized five kg gold worth Rs 1.3 crore, foreign currency worth Rs 14 lakh and other commercial goods worth Rs 24.5 lakh.
