MARGAO: Bitterly complaining of water seepage inside its office, South Goa Zilla Panchayat has renewed its demand for the early shifting of the ZP office to the Old Collectorate building.

Rain water has entered the cabin of ZP Chairperson, Nelly Rodrigues, besides the offices of the Chief Accounts Officer, Executive Engineer and the conference hall through the ventilators.

A visibly agitated Nelly told Herald that she had dashed off a letter to the Secretary, Goa State Agricultural Marketing Board, on June 4, but there has been no change in the ground reality since the last 15 days. “We are functioning from the building owned by the Goa Agricultural Marketing Board since the formation of the zilla panchayats. Despite paying a monthly rent of Rs 42,000, the building is leaking, throwing the office functioning out of gear,” Nelly said.

Fearing that the situation might result in short circuit and fire causing damage to the premises and other electronic equipment, Nelly has asked the Board to get the building repaired to avoid any calamity.

Replying to a question, she said the file recommending shifting of the South Goa Zilla Panchayat to the Old Collectorate building has been forwarded to the government by District Collector, South. “I will enquire with the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on the status of the file during the meeting scheduled on Monday,” Nelly added.
