Rs 5.90 cr recovered from defaulting water consumers

PANJIM: The State government has recovered Rs 5.90 crore from defaulting water consumers via the One Time Settlement Scheme (OTS).

This was revealed by PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar. The ‘Dues Recovery and Settlement Scheme 2020-21’ for payment of dues towards water charges from all domestic and non-domestic consumers, which was launched on December 31, 2020 had been recently extended until June 30, 2021

Pauskar said so far they had received 3,819 applications out of which 2,577 had been settled.

He added that no one’s water connection had been disconnected yet but that those who had not applied for the scheme will have to pay the full amount and the delayed payment  charges post June 30, failing which they would face action.

Adding that the department may consider one last extension given the positive response so far, Pauskar explained that those who had applied for the scheme had the chance of clearing their arrears in various instalment sizes, something that won’t be applicable to those who don’t clear any of their dues this month.
