PANJIM: The Rs 52 crore Tuem Community Health Centre which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is being frequented by the dogs and cows. The centre was inaugurated two years ago.

The Tuem Community Centre is already in a dilapidated condition even before it has become functional. The artificial ceiling of the centre has given way in many places. On any ordinary day, one will see cows and dogs at the doorsteps of the Tuem Community Health Centre. In fact the courtyard of the centre is always littered with cow and dog dung.

Former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar questioned, why the Tuem Community Health Centre which was inaugurated two years ago, has not been made functional. He said that it was linked to the Goa Medical College unlike any other Primary or Community Health Centre. It would have 12 wards which would cater to different medical needs of the patients. Unlike other centres, where patients are rushed from the community centre to the district hospital to GMC, patients would be attended to by GMC doctors at the Tuem Community Health Centre itself.

Parsekar said that although he had personally perused the matter of starting the Community Health Centre with the present chief minister, still when it was inaugurated, he was not invited for the function.

Parsekar also regretted that projects initiated by him, including the electronic city and the water project were neglected by Sawant. He hoped that with the chief minister declaring himself as the Palak Mantri for Pernem, these projects would get off the ground for the benefit of the people of Pernem.

Parsekar also underlined that even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the electronic city and Mopa Airport on the same day, but the electronic city had not taken off. “The Mopa Airport had taken off since private interests were involved”, he alleged.
