PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal of Rs 700 crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Alumni Council for procuring electric buses.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the money will be used to procure around 500 electric buses which will be operated under Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL).
“The IIT alumni, who are out of the country, are contributing to a fund of Rs 700 crore. They are giving to the Government of Goa. Under that, through an establishment, a system will be developed. The cost of operations and maintenance will be borne by KTCL,” he said.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said, “Around a month back, Chief Secretary wrote to the IIT Alumni Council asking it to help the State through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in having more buses for transportation. They have agreed to help us to the tune of Rs 700 crore wherein they will be giving us electric buses to ply in Goa which will solve our problem on a bigger scale.”
He said, “Over 500 buses are to be given by them to improve the transportation system in Goa. The Special Purpose Vehicle, which we have launched, will help us get those buses. A board will be formed which will have four members from KTCL and four from the IIT Alumni Council.”
