Rs 76 cr underground cabling projects to tackle power outages in Quepem, Sanguem villages: Sudin

PORVORIM: Power Minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar on Wednesday informed the House that the government will transition overhead electrical cables into underground cabling to address the issue of frequent power cuts in Rivona, Caurem, Pirla and surrounding villages.

Replying to a Calling Attention motion by MLA Nilesh Cabral, he said the existing overhead 33KV line of Quinamol feeder emerging from the Xeldem substation will be converted into an underground cabling system under the jurisdiction of SD-II, Quepem for an amount of Rs 27,86,71,730.

“The existing overhead line of 11KV Malkarnem feeder emerging from Xeldem substation will be converted into an underground cabling system under Tribal Sub-Plan Scheme, under the jurisdiction of SD-II, Quepem at a cost of Rs 21,23,14,514. The existing overhead line of 11KV Maina feeder emerging from Quinamol substation will also be moved underground under the Tribal Sub-Plan Scheme, at a cost of Rs 26,88,09,562 and the existing overhead line of 11KV Sulcorna feeder emerging from the Quinamol substation will be converted into an underground system under Electricity Development Fund Scheme,” he said.

He said the Department is also in the process of hiring a separate additional vehicle to attend to breakdowns in the area, for which the process has been initiated.
