PANJIM: Private bus operators lobby has petitioned Transport Department not to allow buses for ferrying the public for BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally, scheduled on January 12 at Merces.
Transport Department, has however clarified that the department has no powers to act against such bus operators. Director Transport Arun Desai said that the Road Transport Authority (RTA) will take necessary action if found that diversion of buses for public rally disturbed normal transport.
“RTA can penalize them. But the department and RTA has no powers to stop them from being used for public meetings or rallies,” he said. All Goa Private Bus Owners Association (AGPBOA) have appealed to its colleagues to boycott Modi rally.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has recently announced that total 700-800 buses would be hired for ferrying people for the rally. Over one lakh people are expected to attend the rally.
