The Road Transport Authority (RTA) Enforcement South Goa on Thursday inspected the NH-4 route from Usgao to Collem, following a complaint from South Goa Tourist Coaches Owners Association regarding problems faced due to mining traffic.
The South Goa Tourist Coaches Owners’ Association in its complaint had stated that they have to face hardships while taking the tourists to Dudhsagar Waterfalls.
The association has also demanded action against the irate truck drivers and urged the RTA Enforcement Wing to look into the matter. “Acting on our complaint, Assistant Director of Transport Enforcement South Goa, Prakash Azavedo, along with other RTA personnel visited the area. We are hopeful that authorities will monitor the traffic situation and come out with a solution,” said South Goa Tourist Coaches Owners Association President Francis D’Silva.
“We are facing a lot of hardship due to the mining transport and especially due to unruly behaviour of the truck drivers while ferrying foreign tourists to Dudhsagar. We along with our guests are often stranded for hours and I hope the authorities will come out with a solution. The truck drivers also need to be educated, who are mostly migrants,” he said.
Azavedo said: “This is a genuine problem due to a surge in mining activities.”
“I feel this will require a joint effort from every authority and also the mining companies. Up-gradation of road infrastructure needs to be done to solve traffic congestion problem. I will prepare a report and send it to my superiors,” said Azavedo.
